ladies night: multiple mediums

An introduction to pottery and the wheel, fused glass, scrapbooking and watercolors. Rather than focus on one medium, this class surveys them all. If you can't decide which art form you really want to learn, this is a good way to sample several. Includes studio time. Monday 7-9pm. Basic materials included.   REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS.

drawing techniques/acrylics & watercolors

This 12 hour course explores art of drawing with an aim to familiarize students with different mediums, styles and techniques and to explore the potentials possible in watercolor and acrylic painting, exploring color theory, line and shadow, and composition, with an aim to familiarize students with different styles and techniques. Watercolor paints and pencils, pen & ink, pastel, and charcoal pencil are all options. Subjects matter ranges from portraiture, still life, and landscape, with an emphasis on form, line & shadow, and composition. It is an excellent introductory class for the absolute beginner, with more challenging potentials for the intermediate artist. Includes studio time. Saturday 11-1pm. This 12 hour course explores art of drawing and painting the human form, including faces, hands, and the body. Line and shape, light and shadow, and proportion will all be explored. Students have the option of working sculpturally, with drawing, and/or with paints. Due to subject matter, minors may not enroll without the permission of a legal guardian. This 12 hour course explores the techniques surrounding oil painting. Texture, line and shape, light and shadow, portraiture, and landscapes will all be explored, and students will work primarily outdoors. It is an excellent introductory class for the absolute beginner. Includes 15 hours of studio time. Saturday 11am-1pm. Students must provide their own oil paints.  REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS.

This 12 hour course is an advanced painting course, designed to workshop topics of interest to more advanced students and introduce them to new ideas and styles. Possible subjects include portraiture, landscapes, and other special genres, and styles such as tenebrism, impressionism, and surrealism. Includes 15 hours of studio time. Saturday 11-1pm. This 12 hour course explores the basic design, construction, and finishing of artistic fabric construction. Topics explored will include the decoration of fabric with stamps, dyes (especially batik), and additions, as well as the construction of items through weaving. No sewing experience required. introductory photography

This 12 hour course explores the dying art of black-and-white photography, including the aesthetics of composition, working with cameras, and the developing of film.  Includes 15 hours of studio time. Mondays 7-9pm. Students must provide own camera.  REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS

This 12 hour course explores the concept of the book (the scrapbook, the journal, etc.) as a work of art, and teaches the skills necessary to create, bind, and embellish your words and concepts, including an introduction to calligraphy, printing, papermaking, stamping, and layout. Class enrollment is limited. Nonceramic classes may require materials and/or toolkits, depending on student projects and choices.
