Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL QUESTIONS
What are your hours?
We are normally open Monday-Thursday 12-9; Friday & Saturday 12-6. Please note that our hours are subject to volunteer availability so please call ahead to make sure we'll be there!
I'm not a very artistic person. Can you still use me as a volunteer?
Yes! Many of our volunteers are just like you- helpful folks who want to donate their time. You don't need to be an artist to answer the phone or help customers that come in with questions. We're looking for people who are flexible, dependable and willing to take on a wide variety of duties. Call us at 814-237-1982 to set up an appointment to be interviewed.
How do I register for a class?
We now have a functional shopping cart on our site! You can register for any class by clicking on CLASSES in the CATALOG box on your left. You can also register over the phone- just give us a call at 814-237-1982.
I already know how to do this and don't need to take a class. Is there some way I can I just come in and use your pottery wheels?
Yes! It's called an Artisan Membership. Artisan Members pay a fee (monthly, by the semester, or yearly) for the use of our clay, glass, photography and art facilities to work independently. Artisan members receive discounts on firing fees, studio clay, classes and workshops.
Will you put my stuff for sale in your gallery?
Part of our mission is to support local artists by giving them exposure in our gallery space, either as a monthly exhibiting artist or as part of our ongoing retail sales. If you're interested in being considered, please contact us via this website. When writing to us, please include at least 4 images of your work to be considered.
SUMMER CAMP QUESTIONS
I see morning and afternoon classes. What if I need a full day camp for my child?
All of our camps are sold in half-day parts. If you need a full day camp, you can combine our AM and PM camps to create one.
Why are you clay camps 2 weeks long? Can my child take a 1 week clay camp?
All of our clay camps (handbuilding and wheel pottery) are two weeks long to allow campers to work with clay from the beginning to the end of the process. During week 1 campers will be making projects out of clay, refining techniques. trimming and finishing work. Then their work will be fired to create bisqueware. During week 2 the campers will glaze their pieces, and they will be finish fired to be taken home at the end of the week. Since the glazing process only takes a few days, week 2 also includes another non-clay art topic to round out the week. For this reason, we cannot accept any one week clay registrations.
What should my child bring to camp? How should they dress?
If your child is enrolled in a half-day camp, they should pack a snack for break. If your child is enrolled in a full-day camp, they should bring 2 snacks plus a lunch. Dress your child in clothing that can get dirty and messy...because they will get dirty! Campers should also wear closed-toe shoes - no sandals/flip-flops allowed for safety reasons.
My child has special needs. Can you accomodate them in your program?
We try to match the experience and skills of our staff with your child's special needs on a case by case basis. If we feel we can give your child a safe, successful and rewarding camp experience, we will. Please give us a call or email us to discuss the details.
